Alcoholic needs booze at 5 am to stop withdrawel symptoms, how would they detox and get to rehab?

Just curious. My sister-in-law Deanna is the mother of 4 kids, two adults, two minors. Her alcoholism has progressed a lot in the past 3 years since I first met her until now. The kids tell me that now she is having to get up and drink early in the morning to manage all of her withdrawel symptoms. I don’t think she is going to get help, but i’m curious about how would someone this advanced detox and get help? Please share a story, or any information that you know about this. Thanks in advance.
just looking for answers to the question, not so much for my sis-in-law as she will never get treatment – intervention won’t work, long family history, gets drunk daily with hubby, kids, and her mother. Yes, I’ve called everyone under the sun about protection for kids – no response. I’ve been told being an alcoholic isn’t a crime by childrens protective services and law enforcement. Just curious if she did get help, the medical side of what would be necessary to get her detoxed and into a rehab. Thanks much for all the answers!

the best way to get help for her would be to contact a rehab facility. First your sister in law needs to realize and want help. If you don’t know where you can find the nearest or best rehab facility, i’m sure you can contact a doctor or hospital and get references. I hope your sister in law gets help soon.

Sounds like a sad situation. Normally, detox takes about 7 days and then they would have to go to at least a 30-day rehab. But it is really difficult if the person is unwilling to go voluntarily . I think you need to get some professional help involved for the sake of the children. Why don’t you consult a crisis hotline .

She would definitely need to detox under medical supervision. Alcohol detox in severe cases can be very dangerous, or even fatal, but if correctly medically managed and medicated, it is generally a very safe procedure.

She would benefit most from a supervised detox in a rehab or hospital, and by the sounds of her level of dependency, probably needs some significant inpatient therapy at an alcohol rehab facility.

An intervention could be effective in convincing her of the need for treatment, and these can work for a lot of people who might otherwise never initiate treatment on their own.

She could do it though, thousands do it everyday, and some of these people are in pretty rough shape when they start…there’s always hope!

She would definetly need to do this under medical supervision. If the withdrawl symptoms get dangerous for her health, they will wein her off gradually…

I too hope your sister-in-law gets help.
make her understand she needs it, and make her understand she will have the support of people she loves if she decides to fight this. And that she CAN live a better life.

i’m a recovering alcoholic. she needs to go to a detox treatment facility. they will detox her there with medication so she doesn’t get to sick. after about 3 to7 days they will send her to a inhouse treatment facility for about 90 days. hope this helps.
